Gaanam & Madhu

Namasthe! I am Madhu an aspirant of Carnatic Music, born and brought up in Tirupathi, a place dominant of Idol worship, traditions and music on the southern part of India and married into Mallampallis originating from West Godavari, that appreciates Carnatic Music.  The maiden family name Tamarapu happens to be the national flower of India, and is placed at the feet of Lord Vishnu during worship. This website speaks about my journey into the realms of the Carnatic music.

 Background

 

My mom Dr.Jhansi Rani was my first teacher. My Twin Hima and I learnt the basics from Sita teacher living two blocks away from my home. Sarali swaralu, Janta swaralu, Daatu swaralu gave us a strong hold on Carnatic music. When we turned 17, we had the golden opportunity to learn Annamayya Sankirtanas from Raghunath Garu, Who works as music Vidvan (scholar) for Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams, Tirupathi. We reached the Varnam steps of the music ladder. Unfortunately, we stopped at varnams as I had to move out of the country for higher studies. But, Aspiration, dedication, and passion for music still keeps me going…

Performances

My first performance over the radio was in 1998 when, we sang songs in praise of our Nation India composed and directed by Nageswar Raogaru. Later, We had a chance to perform on Radio (Air IndiaTirupathi station)Annamayya Sankeertanas under the guidance of our Guru garu Mr.Raghunath. We also had an opportunity to perform at Asthana Mantapam during Tirumala Brahmostavams 2003 as part of encouraging the TTD employees and their families to discover the divinity of Music. While schooling at USA, I was part of the Western Kentucky University Womens’ chorus 2006 concert.

Activities

I conducted Carnatic music classes at Lexington, KY. since Sep 2007 until I moved out in July 2009 after my marriage.  First started for the kids alone, another batch was started for women. The women’s batch has performed at the temple, celebration events etc. Currently living in Danville, PA I am planning on conducting Carnatic music classes for kids to introduce them to our rich culture and heritage.
